Jersey Swells

Friday night I noticed the right side of Jersey's tiny little head was swollen.  At first Aaron did not agree with me but then upon closer inspection he did see it.  We decided to wait until morning to see if the swelling would go down on it's own.

Saturday morning we woke up and the swelling was worse.  So after a few texts back and forth with my Mom she agreed to meet me at the vet's office because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be able to afford paying for this.  I called the vet's office who told me it sounded like something was wrong with his tooth although he is really young to have that happen.  I thought they were crazy because I was pretty sure he had been stung by something.

We decided to go to Petsmart and have the vet there check it out.  Jersey weighed in at a whopping 8.3 pounds!  Then the vet's assistant came in and Jersey wouldn't let her touch his mouth.  So she too thought it was something with his tooth.  She took his temperature and then we waited for the vet.

The Vet, Dr. Farmer (appropriate name for a Vet in my opinion), came in and instantly fell in love with Jersey (just like everyone does).  She said it looked more like a sting (HA).  So then she felt Jersey up (had to make sure he was neutered) and prepared me for the worst.  She wanted to keep him through the day.  He was going to be sedated so they could check around in his mouth.  Then when he came out of sedation I could come get him.  This was all at 10:30 am.  So I asked about what time he would be ready to go home.  They responded with 4:00 pm.  My instant thought was, "ok good that's before 5:00 pm (we had a wedding to attend)"  then my next thought was "Oh God how is this going to work we have a wedding at 5."

Dr. Farmer brought in the estimate.  I just about died at this point.  Without the Wellness Plan through Banfield/Petsmart she was estimating it would cost almost $1000.  With the Wellness Plan it was going to be around $450.  These estimates included x-rays of his head if they got in there and found out that it was his tooth.  Mom told them to go ahead and she would pay for it.  We walked out hoping that he did not need x-rays.  Then we went home.

Once I got back to Aaron's he decided he needed to go to the bank.  So we ran to town.   Then got back and ate sandwiches with his mom.  Then we fiddled around on the XBox.  Then we decided to go to JCPenney because Aaron needed a new shirt for the wedding at the very least (he ended up getting a shirt, pants, and belt).  While on the way there Mom called and asked if I had heard anything yet.  We decided for the sake of logistics I would run into Petsmart to see how much longer.

I run in, they go get Dr. Farmer who comes out with her iPhone to show me pictures of Jersey's mouth.  He did get stung.  She also thought he had an infection and he will probably need to be on an antihistamine and an antibiotic.  I tell her that I need to pick him up by 4 at the latest because we have a wedding at 5.  She says no problem and they would get him to start coming out of sedation.  I leave and call Mom to fill her in.  Then we go get Aaron a haircut and Jersey some wet food to take his pills with and we fly home.

I hurry get in the shower.  And as I'm starting to get ready Mom calls me.  She instantly says "I own that puppy for awhile."  So I asked if she had paid for him.  She said she did and they would give me an itemized receipt all with his medication when I went to pick him up.  I thank her profusely.  I finish getting ready and debate about whether or not I should wear my black dress to pick him up or if I should just wear normal clothes and change when I got back to Aaron's.  Aaron tells me to go dressed for the wedding just in case there isn't much time.  So I do which entailed a black cocktail dress with snakeskin heels--I was way overdressed for Petsmart.  I get to the animal hospital part and the Vet does a double take because I look completely different.  Then I proceed to wait about 15 minutes for them to be done with my little guy.  The Vet also tells me that when Jersey came out of sedation he tried to bite one of the Vet techs.  So Jersey now has to have a note on his file that he's a biter!

I finally get Jersey who is a shedding fool.  He also has a little bandage on his leg from where his IV had been put in.  But he was perfect again (with some swelling still).  I get him and his medicine and we hightail it out of there.

We get home and he is still a little loopy from the sedation.  And he could barely jump on the couch to sit next to Aaron's Mom.  Aaron and I go to the wedding.  When we got home Jersey still had his bandage on.  I said he looked like a kid who had gone to the hospital for something and came home with band-aids on and decided he was going to leave them on because he was a tough guy.  We gave Jersey his first round of pills and went to bed.

Jersey has a couple more days of pills twice a day.  But his swelling is gone.  And he seems back to his normal self.  Except a couple hours after he takes his pills...then he knocks out (poor dude can't handle antihistamines)!  Here is a picture of Jersey passed out the other night.  He was watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

I failed as a blogger to get a picture of his swollen face or his bandage!  I was too concerned about the health of the little dickens!  But I can assure everyone he is as good as new.  He gets to go see Dr. Farmer Monday night for a follow-up appointment.

Abby

Abby is my best friend and cousin!

I was the Maid of Honor in her wedding and she will be the Matron of Honor in mine.

She is absolutely awesome!  She is so much more courageous than me.  She did not seem to have a problem when her fiance took a job in the middle of South Dakota.  She packed her stuff up and moved out there 5 months before him.  Then, they got this great opportunity on a ranch in Wyoming.  And they took it.  Me, I would have been scared to death to move that far from home, but not them.  Absolutely amazing!

Abby helps me get through just about everyday at work thanks to IMing!  And neither one of us enjoy it when the other is on vacation.

She generally can calm me down and make me see the other side of things.  Or at least make me see I'm being crazy!

She's a rancher's wife through and through.  She is one the best photographer's around.  And you can catch up with her over here.

Jersey and the Outdoors

Jersey LOVES LOVES LOVES to be outside.  He loves to run like crazy.  He truly smiles when he is outside.

Unfortunately, Jersey has not learned that he cannot just go wherever he pleases.  So when Jersey goes outside he is either on a leash or on a tie out.  This sucks but Aaron and I have had to chase him all around too many times (one time involved Aaron barefoot running under an acorn tree).

But here are some pictures of the Jersey outside at Grandma's (my Mom) house....

Just takin it easy and letting me take pictures

Look at that tail go....it hardly ever stops!

Jersey hasn't quite figured out how to get himself out of situations like the above.  He doesn't quite get that if he goes through somewhere, i.e. deck rails, to get unstuck he must go back through the way he came.

Workin' Wednesday

As you all probably are fully aware it is summer.  Also, as you may be aware last week it was like 1,000 degrees outside.  Ok so it was really about 106 but it sure felt like 1,000 degrees!

Summer in my family means the boys are gone to scout camp.  Our Troop (Troop 360, the best Troop in the world) camped last week.  This means we (Mom, KT, Stephanie, Ida, myself, and all of the rest of the scout families) were required to go to St. Joseph Wednesday for Family Night.  We all take food and gorge ourselves then we go to the Council Ring for the Family Night show.

It is common practice to wear your Troop 360 t-shirt for Family Night.  I decided that a t-shirt was going to be entirely too much fabric for my liking on this particular Family Night since it was 1,000 degrees outside!

I decided that I was going to make a tank top to wear and then brought Stephanie in on the plan.  So on Wednesday we quick made tank tops before leaving for camp.  This was the only action shot I got...

Just like anything that Stephanie and I do, there were tons of laughs.  Like when Stephanie swore Troop was spelled wrong on her tank top after she ironed it on.  Or when I ironed my 3 on backwards (consequently we learned that iron-on letters come right off if you dab rubbing alcohol on the back of the iron-on).

Here is the front of the finished product...

And of course the back with a little bling...

We were so proud of ourselves and we received lots of compliments on them.  And one offer to buy one!

Vitamin Junkie

I've decided to become a Vitamin Junkie.  Why you ask?  Well after getting angry with my Mom over something rather silly yesterday; then getting angry with Aaron last night when he tried to tell me I overreacted in regards to the situation with my Mom; and then getting angry with Aaron this morning over, again, something completely silly, I decided maybe I should figure out what the heck was going on.  Oh, and Aaron had to tell me that I was acting a little crazy too.

But I realized that my hormones are crazy and make me even crazier when Mother Nature decides she is going to pay me a visit.  So I did some research and found that Vitamin B6 is supposed to help with mood swings.

I promptly decided that I would try B6.  But CVS is having a buy 1, get 1 sale on Nature Made vitamins.  So I am now also taking Vitamin C everyday.

Hopefully I am less edgy around "that time of the month" and get sick less!

The Youth Group

I have been involved in my church youth group since I was about 13.  That's 15 years...gosh!

I started out as a youth and did all of the typical  youth group activities as a youth.  I loved it.   Then I progressed into a Youth Leader.

I believe whole-heartedly in my church's youth group.  I can't speak of any other church's youth group but mine is awesome!  I loved it as a youth and I love it more as a leader.

I spent a week with these crazy teenagers at the Higher Things Conference in North Carolina.  We had some trials throughout the week but overall I would consider the week a gigantic success!!  And this is only part of the youth group!!  This group happens to all be seniors or in college and they have grown into amazing young adults!!

That Moment

I know today is supposed to be a review of something pop culture but I'm contemplating changing that.  Plus, I had a thought for this post this morning and I know if I don't post it now I never will.

Also, this could be a Puke-In-My-Mouth post (sorry Stephanie!)

This morning I was fast asleep and Aaron moved his arm and it woke me up around 5.  No big deal, I thought, I'll just go back to sleep.

But as I was laying there thinking I realized that there was absolutely no place on earth I would rather be at that moment.  I was snuggled up next to Aaron with Jersey snuggled up on the other side of me.

I was in between my two guys.

At that moment nothing else mattered.  I was safe, happy, and completely content with everything in life.

I love those boys!

Sorry if you puked in your mouth.  But I challenge all of you to try to have one of these moments in the very near future.  It's amazing the feeling you get from it and how long that feeling lasts.

Spotlight on My Grammy

Sorry I didn't post last week...I was out of town on a youth trip for church...more on this topic at a later date!

Today it's all about My Grammy!  Why?  Because it's her birthday today!  Not just any birthday....her 80th Birthday!

Grammy when she first became a Grammy almost 30 years ago (the baby is me).  I'm sure she'll be thrilled to see this picture in my blog!

Another picture of me and Grammy from long ago.  I just love her!

Grammy and I chatting about something in Savannah, Georgia on our first family vacation way back when!

Poppa and Grammy!!!

My Grammy (and I'm sure my cousins can vouch for this also) is awesome!  She's just this little old lady who laughs at all of us.  She has to be able to laugh...she been married to Poppa for 54 years!  She is constantly being teased by all of us and she doesn't seem to mind.  She isn't afraid to ask you the questions that other people would be such as, Aaron when are you going to quit smoking so you can marry Becky.
She's been on facebook for years because she realized that it was a great way to keep in contact with all of her grandkids that are scattered around the country.  She was one of the first grandma's of all of my friends to be on facebook.

She's great!  Happy 80th Birthday to the best Grammy in the whole entire world!!!  Thanks for the smiles and the laughs and the blue bottles for my someday wedding!
